Benefits During a Disaster or Emergency

 

In the event that the President, Governor or the Secretary of Health and Human Services broadcasts a disaster or public emergency, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey guarantees your access to these benefits and services:

  • We will pay all services as though they are in network (facility and provider)

  • We will waive applicable referral requirements

  • We will eliminate the mandatory 30-day notice and will, therefore, make changes that benefit you instantaneously

For the benefit of our members, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey makes all of these changes, in an effective and immediate manner. Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey’s benefits protections will remain in place until:

  • The President, Governor or the Secretary of Health and Human Services announces that the disaster or the public emergency has ended, or

  • When 30 days have passed since the announcement of the disaster or public emergency.

If Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey is incapable of operating or unable to resume customary business methods due to a disaster or public emergency, we will inform the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS).
